What is in a name? Have you ever thought about that? A name in the Old Testament described the character of an individual or God. I have learned in walking with the Lord since 1972 that this is so true. In the above passage the name used is Yahweh, which was the name that Israel called God. It revealed all the attributes of God. As I pondered this I began to think of the other names that were used to describe God and saw how they fit into every situation of my life over the years. He has been my provider, protector, healer, righteousness, sanctifier, peace, strength. There is a name that describes each of these attributes of our God.
He is STRONG tower. That means His strength is so much higher than mine and never tires; it won’t fail. When I am ready to give up I run to Him and His strength sustains me and energizes me to do what must be done.
This passage above also says that the righteous run to the name of the Lord. In Webster’s, run is defined as follows:
Run: move at a speed faster than a walk, never having both or all the feet on the ground at the same time.
• (run to) have rapid recourse to (someone) for support or help.
Can you see how this describes what we are to do when we are in need? It is assumed that if you are a believer you will run to the name of the Lord. Run, don’t hesitate, don’t let your feet hit the ground at the same time; run to the One who has all the answers, the One who can help you, the One who can keep you safe and secure. He is the peace giver.
In recent months I have needed Him to be my strength as I have cared for my mother who has been very ill. Dear friends, what name of the Lord do you need to trust in today? He is waiting. Run, looking forward to the One who is waiting with open arms to meet your need and comfort you. Run and don’t stop until you reach Him. Remember the NAME of the LORD IS a strong tower.
